Infodemic management: Developing an infodemic insights report

Developing an infodemic insights report is one of the key actions taken by infodemic managers to help health authorities and partners identify, questions, concerns, information voids, narratives and circulating mis- and disinformation on a particular health topic and propose preventive and corrective actions toward mitigating the infodemic. This course, which is part of the “Infodemic management course series” provides an overview of the steps the learners can take to plan for and develop an infodemic insights report.

Overview: The OpenWHO course “Infodemic management: developing an infodemic insights report” is intended for anyone interested in building capacities on how to plan for and develop a meaningful infodemic insights report to inform public health authorities’ interventions.

In the future, infodemics will accompany all epidemics. Infodemic management is the systematic use of risk- and evidence-based analysis and approaches to prepare for, prevent and manage these infodemics and reduce their impact on health behaviours during health emergencies.

The actions an infodemic manager would take include collecting data, conducting integrated analysis, developing strategies, implementing them, and monitoring and strengthening infodemic management actions.

An infodemic insights report, as a routine report for health authorities and stakeholders that synthesizes data and outlines recommendations for solutions to potential and emerging issues, is a key component to this comprehensive infodemic management strategy. In this course, participants can expect to learn how to collect the right mix of data available, what are the skills needed to analyse and compile the report findings, how to disseminate the report and how to track infodemic management actions that are taken. Completion of the final test will allow participants to obtain a record of achievement.

Duration: Approximately 2 hours.

Certificates: A certificate of achievement will be available to participants who score at least 80% of the total points available in the final assessment. Participants who receive a certificate of achievement can also download an Open Badge for this course. Click here to learn how.
