Material support for people with TB

Offered by OpenWHO
Material support for people with TB

Material support addresses social and economic factors that may prevent people from accessing care, adhering to care plans, and successfully completing treatment courses. Adherence to TB treatment is a crucial determinant of treatment outcomes. Adherence to the long course of TB treatment is a complex and dynamic phenomenon with a wide range of factors that impact behaviour. Adherence of people with TB to their medication regimens is influenced by the interaction of different factors.

One of the interventions to support treatment adherence is material support.

Course information

Material support emerges as a tangible intervention aimed at fostering treatment adherence. By addressing economic barriers, such as providing financial assistance for medication costs or offering transportation support for clinic visits, material support directly addresses practical challenges that individuals may face during their TB treatment journey. This intervention recognises that a comprehensive approach to healthcare must extend beyond medical prescriptions, acknowledging and mitigating the broader socioeconomic determinants that impact individuals' ability to adhere to their treatment plans. In essence, material support becomes a crucial element in the multifaceted strategy to enhance adherence and improve treatment outcomes for people with TB.
