Avian and other zoonotic influenza: Introduction

Animal influenza viruses are distinct from human seasonal influenza viruses and are not easily transmitted between humans. However, zoonotic influenza viruses – animal influenza viruses that can occasionally infect humans through direct or indirect contact – can lead to disease outcomes in humans ranging from mild illness to death. This course gives an overview of the key information on animal influenza, human cases, and elements of prevention, preparedness and response to human cases.
